Awesome guitar for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band games Jul 12, 2009
By Code4Toys I own the corded Guitar Hero II guitar, the wireless Les Paul from Guitar Hero III, the Rock Band 2 guitar, and this guitar from Guitar Hero World Tour. I've played these guitar games starting when Guitar Hero II came out for the Xbox 360. I play both GH and RB pretty equally and love both games so I'm not here to put RB or GH down like a fanboi.
By far this is the most responsive guitar of them all. Strumming is quick and effortless and just feels right compared to the other guitars. I'm so used to the responsiveness that when I play with other guitars it puts me at a disadvantage and I mess up more.
I also prefer how this guitar--like the other Guitar Hero guitars--have slightly raised buttons for the frets (the colored buttons on the neck) as opposed to the Rock Band guitars which are sunken. It's much easier to slide up and down with the GH guitars.
At first I thought the slider button was a stupid gimmick, but after I learned to keep my left hand on the regular frets and use my right hand (that I usually strum with) on the sliders it is a lot more fun. I actually look for songs that feature the sliders now. It really adds to the "rocker experience" when you're tapping the slider bar.
In the end, I recommend this guitar just for the simple fact that it feels better playing in your hand. I've had it the 1st day Guitar Hero World Tour came out and I've never had any problems with it. I'm not saying there aren't any problems, just saying for me this instrument has been solid and a joy to use.
Great controller! Could use some work to be perfect... Feb 25, 2012

I recently got into Guitar Hero again. I hadn't played it on a guitar controller because I didn't own one, so I've been playing the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero 2 which lets you use a standard controller to hit notes using the shoulder buttons. So I finally broke down and bought this controller, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Smash Hits, and Warriors of Rock.
...wow!
Playing with this guitar is fun, the slide-bar is awesome and now that I have a next-gen system, games like Guitar Hero Metallica and even Rock Band 3 are super impressive with the graphics. Seriously! I'm not one to nag about graphics but the Xbox is beautiful!
After about a week of shredding on expert, however, I noticed sometimes the guitar would double-strum. Other times, it strums on it's own, making getting 100 percent notes hit impossible. BUT, I found a way around it: See, there's a nub on the bottom of the controller that you can use to navigate the menus more easily. The Xbox 360 button on it. You just strum this up or down and it functions exactly like a strum bar. Better, actually, but it's really awkward. And on Hard and Expert it's tough to strum and hit the whammy because moving your hand up to the whammy is a chore. Nevertheless, at least you'll be able to get your shred on. An alternate way to strum is to hold notes like normal then tap the touch strip, but this is more trouble than what it's worth.
Overall it's a comfortable controller and I think it's really cool. Playing games is really fun with it, and it's super-responsive. Just beware that with these controllers (pretty much all the Guitar Hero or Rock Band controllers), the strum bar will glitch out eventually, but there's always a way around a problem. It just depends on whether or not you want to deal with it or replace it. Four stars!!!
Exactly what I needed Apr 18, 2011
By Cody C. Jackson this guitar replaced one that had a bum button and I already had one of these so I knew that they were good guitars I got this for a steal of a deal and it has been working great. no lags, no bum buttons, even used everything was there as if it was not used, and in perfect condition.
pros: great guitar especially for the newer GH games and works for all GH games as well
Cons: none I can think of I don't like the "break Neck" design but thats a personal thing since thats the reason my old one died cuz one of the contacts on the guitar neck fell off.
great for the money and will definitely get another if something happens to the ones I have

This guitar controller, as all of the Guitar Hero controllers, suffers from one problem that hasn't yet been fixed: Loose fret buttons. They required some breaking-in on the original Guitar Hero 2 white XPLORER guitar controller, but over time, even though the frets have changed slightly, problems with buttons not reading as being held down continues to be the biggest problem. I suppose it can really be blamed on the construction of the controller itself. The buttons wiggle in their holes. They aren't loose like about-to-fall-out-of-the-guitar loose, but it means you might pinch the edge of a button thinking you have it pushed down, and then you go to strum the note and you miss it. It's incredibly frustrating for someone like me. I play on Expert, and am constantly trying to better my score. And when you can't trust the controller you're using the fun is immediately sucked out of the game for me.
The strum bar is the other way that this guitar controller fails miserably. For me, anyways. I play left, and so I technically play the guitar upside down. Maybe as a righty it isn't so bad, but to play this guitar as a lefty, when I down-strum, you have to push it nearly to its stop in order for the guitar to register a strum. So if I'm playing, but the notes aren't coming down the track fast enough that I would need to use up and down-strums, I have to shove the strum bar all the way down every time. It completely ruins the fun of playing, and I'm sure only ruined the strum bar on the guitar further.
Now in fairness, I let my brother use this one when we played Rock Band since he's right-handed, and the strum bar seemed to work fine for him. But since I'm lefty, I really can't give this any higher a rating. Oh it has a detachable neck and a two-color sunburst. Well congratulations, but I'm getting tired of these guitars being all glitter and no grit. It can't stand up to someone who needs to use this to seriously PLAY it. Imagine using a regular XBOX 360 controller to play a game in which you use A, B, X and Y equally, but one of the buttons sticks and the right joystick only works sometimes. It would immediately take all the fun out of playing the game.
The detachable neck is my final complaint and the final straw for me. Quite a few times while I was playing through World Tour (which is a fine game, aside from this awful controller), the game would suddenly stop reading any of the notes I was playing. After a few times I realized it was because when you lock the neck into place it still slides a little, so you have to be careful when you're playing not to pull the neck away from the body. Honestly, the construction was so poor here I don't know what they were thinking. Spend the extra money and just go with a Rock band controller, or like me, stick with the white XPLORER guitar controller.
killer guitar! Mar 18, 2010
By photoactivist This is, by far, the best wireless guitar I've used for music games. It's beautiful, and responds wonderfully. It works for both guitar hero and rockband games. I specifically purchased it for the Beatles Rockband game, and it's astounding!
