Easy to learn, difficult to master. Aug 20, 2009
By Don Walton Jr. At its core, Trials HD is an experiment in physics, wrapped up in a motorbike package. Given only the ability to balance, accelerate and brake, the rider is given the task of conquering increasingly difficult tracks. When it works, it's a blast. Your rider will be rocketing down steep hills and flying off incredible ramps, escaping failure by the skin of his teeth. More often than not, especially as the game progresses, your rider will be hung up trying to conquer just one small area of the race... over, and over, and over again...
Trials HD has a ton of re-playability though, in the form of 'skills' ie. skiing mini games, fire hoops, broken bone challenges, etc. You can replay each track as many times as you like, and your friends scores are constantly posted, even following you along each track so you can see exactly how close you are to besting their best times. It's a very compelling feature and something that will keep you playing 'just one more race' to try and beat your friends score, or your own. At times, its an exercise in patience more than anything, but it's incredibly fulfilling to nail a track you've been practicing for hours. Easily worth $15.

Master the Rear Wheel and you've got it! -Updated Oct 14, 2009
By James E. Ranshaw This game starts out pretty innocent. Totally awesome graphics, effects, controls, and just plain fun. Pretty soon though, it gets very hard. About midway through the Medium levels, you realize how hard this game is, and once you get midway through hard you may just throw your controller. WAIT - don't! While this game is hard, it is very easy to practice over and over. By pressing the B button, you are instantly put back on two wheels at the last check point. (Or press Select to start the level over). You could knock down over 50 attempts in about a minute or two until you get it right, and then the next checkpoint is just over that bump. Still wanna throw your controller? WAIT - don't! This game turns out to be all about the rear wheel. If you can master when to apply your rear wheel to the ground, you will have a much easier time getting through the levels... still hard, but easier. You can't accelerate if your rear wheel is off the ground, so the longer your rear wheel is on the ground the faster you'll go!
After you pass some of the harder levels, press Y to see the leaderboards, and then check out the replays from the #1 slots. Keep a close eye on the rear wheel action, I've learned a lot by watching what others do.
Another tip: Leaning one way then the other can result in some serious instabillity (true to physics) so be careful not to overcompensate!
1-19-2010 EDIT: I'm still totally addicted to this game, so here is another tip. Learn to "bunny hop" for those Hard and Extreme levels. If you accelerate while leaning back, then quickly lean forward, you can hop up on things easier. I find the Hard levels totally manageable now (still no Gold medals), and I've beat all the Extreme tracks... once I figured out the bunny hop.
DLC (BIG Track Pack) also available now, and totally worth the measly $5.

Fun and Frustrating Aug 19, 2009
By J. Wade This is a solid game. It is based on the online, 2D game of the same name. While a very fun game, it gets extremely challenging which could be a turnoff for some users. You can spend a long time trying to get over one awkwardly placed box. Sadly, the game limits you to 30 minutes max per level. At one point I struggle with an obstacle, and after 29 minutes of struggling I made it over, but couldn't make it to the finish line in time.
The levels are filled with checkpoints so you never feel like you are forced to replay a lot of what you already did. Also, you can respawn with the press of a button, so you can have quick, repeated attempts on the tricky obstacles. Sadly, I feel like the harder levels get rid of what makes this game fun! The most fun I had was racing down the track, flipping. The good parts feel almost like a roller coaster. The difficult levels get rid of this feeling; instead you spend a long time trying to get over a crate.
A super fun sequel to an under appreciated series Mar 28, 2012

"Gaming Guru"
The Good: Great graphics, superb physics, challenging tracks, lots of mini-games, nice level editor
The Bad: Which some are impossible, later tracks can be hair pulling experiences, retry, retry, retry...
Trials HD is a game that PC gamers will recognize thanks to the amazing (yet buggy) Steam. Trials HD is very simple, but hard to master, and is a motocross physics game. The basic goal is to get from one end to the other using physics and the environment around you and also make the best time.
Trials starts out with a simple tutorial to get you familiar with the controls, and they are easy but hard to master. You use the weight of your body by leaning back and forth to hit jumps just right. These jumps are crazy with huge leaps, teeter-tottering beams, and even a super hard move to master that has you jumping off the ground over large pipes. The game is a 3D/2D side scroller and the tracks are built out of junk such as wood, tires, cones, ropes you name it. There are four different difficulty to master and 3 different medals for each track. The medals are based around a time limit and these limits are fair, but there's a catch. Yes, yes I KNOW just listen, you can retry as many times as you want, but to get the gold medal you have to be perfect or screw up within the designated limit. Some tracks have a no restart qualification and the harder tracks will let you restart over ten times for gold medal...yeah they get THAT tough. Most of the tracks you'll be on for over an hour just mastering the tricky maneuvering while some you can just blow through.
The physics engine is spot on though since the bike feels just right and you have complete control of where it goes. Later on in the more difficult tracks you will NEED to master the control of the bike. Throttle and weight distribution are the base elements of making your fastest time. If you just hold the throttle you'll fall backwards, and if you brake to hard you'll fly forward.
There are also mini-games that help you with your skills such as climbing, ball rolling (which is impossible), bumpers, and just flying off your bike and seeing how far your ragdoll man can go. Most of these mini-games are fun, but a select few are just a nightmare, especially getting the gold medal. Trials HD also looks great with HDR lighting, high-res textures and your next-gen fix that you would expect out of a $15 arcade game. The money is well worth the investment thanks to the level editor which allows you to make your own easy or god awful track and upload it online.
There's not much else to say about this complicated yet simple game. If you love physic games go for it, if you love racing go for it, if you love retrying a lot...go ahead.
Addicting game! Mar 16, 2012
By Ace I used to ride dirt bikes when I was younger, and I'm always looking for a game that gives me the best thrill a "couch rider" can have. This game is a blast! Out of any dirt bike games for Xbox 360, this one is by far the best that I have found. Most dirt bike games for the 360 lag. This game is sharp, and challenging. It is so addicting too! I love this game and would highly recommend it to other old couch riders!
