 Causes HDMI reset issue May 12, 2010

Short review: This dongle may not work the same way as the official, so buyer beware.
Full review: On some tv's (including my 2010 LG plasma) changing the source when you are connected to the set via HDMI and also have have this dongle plugged in for optical audio will cause the 360 to reset. This is a known issue for hacked component cables ([...] ) which I had hoped to avoid by purchasing a dongle. Unfortunately the same issue occurs with some aftermarket dongles as well, including the one that I purchased on Amazon through HDE.
Fortunately, I've been able to find a used genuine dongle that solves the problem, allowing me to pause a game and turn off the set to avoid burn-in, while not rewarding MS for their shady design manipulations.

It works perfectly. I have turtle beach headphones so I needed this for the sound to go out the headphones because I already had hd cord for picture etc. etc..

I bought this adapter to connect my xbox 360 to my plasma tv and surround sound system. The HDMI runs 1080p crisp and clean and the fiber optic audio connects to my receiver like it should.
If you have never played a first person shooter with digital surround sound you don't know what you're missing.
Can't beat the price for what this product does.
UPDATE: 17 March 2011...upgraded my receiver to the Sony STR-DN1010 7.1-Channel A/V Blu-Ray Receiver [3D Compatible] which has HDMI inputs (my old Sony only had optical inputs) so I don't use this item anymore but it worked perfectly for me while I needed it.

Purchased this because with my Turtle Beach X11 headphones you can't run an XBOX in HDMI without it. Works perfectly.

If you're buying this product to look at it, then it's great. I ordered it to hook up the audio to my Tritton Tri AX 720's (since I run HDMI and needed an optical audio output). I ordered it from HDE, not sure if that makes a difference, but I've read a few places that theirs do not work well, if at all. I plugged everything in, optical audio into the dongle and... nothing happened. In fact, audio still came out of my mini system, which means that it's not functional at all.
Bottom line, save yourself the few dollars and frustration by modding the A/V component cable that came with your system (search optical audio HDMI Xbox 360 on YouTube for a DIY). You can use that optical out, you just need to pop off the bottom piece of the plug casing, and it fits with an HDMI plugged in. I did it, set up my audio system, then packaged this sucker for a return. Trust me, it's a lot easier and a lot less frustrating.
