Flawed but amusing Oct 16, 2009
By Justin "Violent" Lee I love me some Scrabble. Thus, picking this up was a no-brainer -- especially with the XBLA deal of the week putting it down to $5. While it's a good alternative to the physical board game, it does have some big issues.
This is Scrabble, plain and simple. Make the highest point total word you can from the seven tiles in front of you -- building off existing words. It's an awesome game, but you don't always have someone to play with. In this respect, Scrabble on XBLA is great: You can do a single-player game, then compare your final score to the leaderboards. It's also online enabled, so you can go over Xbox Live and outspell friends and strangers. Nice, right?
Where it stutters is during same-screen multiplayer. There is no good way to hide your letters, so either you make everyone else turn away during your turn, your everyone sees everyone else's letters. This isn't so bad if you're playing casually, but more competitive games are all but ruined. This can't be helped much, but no real attempt was made to position the interface to make "hiding" your tiles easy.
A few minor gripes: If you try a word that the dictionary doesn't recognize, you automatically lose your turn. This should be changeable. Also, there's no interaction to picking tiles -- which would've been a nice kind of minigame. And finally, the music is unappealing, and doesn't fully mute even if you turn it off in the options and play a hard-drive stored song.
At $5, I feel I got my money's worth. But for $10, I may have been a little disappointed. My wife and I will basically play this co-op to get the highest score. It's a shame it fails at the main way people play the "real" Scrabble, though.

Great Family Option for a Price May 15, 2009
By Tyler Benner This is truly a great game. I bought an Xbox 360 so I could play first-person shooters and sports games; neither of them are games that my wife would ever dare play with me. However, she loves to play Scrabble. So, I looked into getting this game. The download itself was listed as FREE, so I was thrilled. You can download the trials for FREE also, but, the buck stops there. Each game that's available (Battleship, Scrabble, Sorry, Connect 4, and Yahtzee) cost $10 or 800 MS points. Boggle and Sorry Sliders are in the "Coming Soon" phase, so don't buy this if you are only going to play those two games because they aren't available yet. But... I have now dropped $50 on five games. I could have ran to my local Wal-Mart and purchased each of the board games for $10, but it's nice to play a game of Scrabble without messing around with all of the tiles and making sure we aren't missing any. Plus, I don't have to worry about my dogs stealing a Sorry pawn off the board.
Is it worth the $10 to play the game? Yea, but only if you plan on playing it quite a bit. My wife and I play a game of Scrabble and Yahtzee every night, but every once in a while, we'll throw in a game of Battleship or Sorry. Plus, you can play friends over Xbox Live, or even strangers who are hosting games.
I gave this 4 stars out of 5 because it's a very high quality game, but it just seems like it costs a bit more than maybe what its worth. But a great game, nonetheless.

Good value for $10 May 16, 2009
By Terence Cole EA and Hasbro did a good job with the Xbox Live Arcade version of Scrabble. The graphics and interface are clean and the online functionality works well. As far as my Amazon purchase experience went, I liked being able to buy the game without having to purchase MS Points. I've played local games with my girlfriend and online games with other gamers around the world, and both kinds of matches were smooth. The only big downside to this game is there is no computer opponent. Some people in forums have commented about the odd angle of the board when you are playing in a online game (and it isn't your turn), but if you have a fairly large TV (32" HDTV or larger) it really isn't too bad. $10 for a solid version of Scrabble is a good deal!

too expensive to buy it as software Apr 30, 2009

now i like scrabble, not a big fan but play it once in a while. but to buy it online costs 10 bucks or 800 msp. plus the trial version of the game only gives you 2 minutes to play as opposed to other demos that let you play as long as you want but with shortened story lines and limited game modes. i am not giving this a 1 star cause of amazon, the idea of being able to download the game code or points code directly from the internet is brilliant and much more secure than giving Microsoft your credit card info through xbox live.
